Frequently asked questions
Common questions answered
Everything you need to know before your notarization session. Can't find your answer? Send us a message above.
What ID do I need to bring or show?
You must present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID — such as a driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or military ID. For RON sessions, your ID will be scanned digitally as part of the IAL2 identity verification process. For in-person sessions, please have your original ID ready.
Is remote online notarization legally valid?
Yes — absolutely. Virginia was one of the first states to authorize Remote Online Notarization under Virginia Code § 47.1. RON documents carry the same full legal weight as traditionally notarized documents and are accepted by courts, government agencies, banks, and institutions nationwide.
How long does a notarization session take?
Most sessions take 10 to 20 minutes from start to finish. Simple single-document notarizations are typically done in under 15 minutes. Sessions with multiple signatures or documents may take slightly longer. RON sessions include a brief identity verification step at the start which adds a few minutes.
Do you travel to my location?
Yes — mobile notary services are available. I can travel to your home, office, hospital, care facility, or another agreed location across Northern Virginia. A reasonable travel fee applies and is agreed upon before the appointment. Alternatively, RON sessions eliminate travel entirely — you stay wherever you are.
What do I need for a RON session?
You will need: a device with a working camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer), a valid government-issued photo ID, your document in PDF format, and a reliable internet connection. A quiet, well-lit location is recommended. That's it — no special software to install.
How much does notarization cost?
Fees follow Virginia's notary fee schedule. In-person: $10 for the first signature/seal, $5–$10 for each additional. RON: $25 for the first notarization, $15–$25 for each additional. Travel fees for mobile appointments are agreed upon in advance. There are no hidden charges — you always know the cost before we begin.
Can I notarize documents for someone else?
The person signing the document must be present — either in person or on the live video call — and must present their own valid ID. You may book the appointment on someone else's behalf, but the actual signer must personally appear. Documents cannot be notarized without the signer being present.
What if I'm outside Virginia — can you still help?
Yes! Through Virginia's state-authorized Remote Online Notarization program, I can notarize documents for clients located anywhere in the United States. You do not need to be in Virginia. The notarization is performed under Virginia law and is fully legally valid nationwide.
How quickly will I receive my notarized document?
For RON sessions, your PKI-sealed electronic document is delivered immediately upon completion of the session — you receive it by email within minutes. For in-person sessions, the notarized original is handed to you on the spot. No waiting, no delays.
Are weekends and evenings available?
Yes — weekend and evening appointments are available by prior arrangement. I understand that many clients have busy work schedules and cannot always take time off during regular business hours. Use the booking form to request your preferred time and we will do our best to accommodate you.
